Our Approach
Financial Advisory
It starts with your goals. Together, we'll create an investment plan designed to realize those goals as best as possible. We do not have a cookie-cutter approach. There is an old adage: “when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.” At AVK, we are a toolbox. We will use all the tools at our disposal to fashion you the right plan and portfolio.
Investment Management
We believe markets are largely efficient, but that behavioral biases can distort short-term prices. Rational but non-economic behavior can lead to mis-pricings that can be exploited via unemotional long-term investing. We also believe many market participants are incentivized to invest for the short-term, giving long-term investors opportunities to capitalize on visible but ignored trends.
What makes AVK different?
To us, you are an individual and you are important.
Most of us lack the time, expertise, or interest to manage our financial planning and investments. You want a trusted partner to provide reasoned and unbiased financial advice.
Unfortunately, finding such a partner can be challenging. The structure of the industry today leaves many people feeling unimportant, just another source of fees in a profit-generating machine. With many wealth management firms requiring investment minimums to receive detailed attention, financial guidance can seem unobtainable for most. Many financial advisors and managers have poor alignment of interest, serving their interests more than your own. In fact, many are paid commissions based on the products they sell, whether or not they are right for their clients, and they are not required to put their clients' interests before their own. We've heard of too many friends & family members being pitched complex, expensive investment products that aren’t appropriate for their needs. You deserve better.
AVK is not your typical wealth advisor. We are a fiduciary and must put our clients' interests first. We are fee-only and never get paid to sell an unsuitable investment or insurance product. We avoid the noise, politics, and marketing efforts of typical wealth managers, focusing on delivering results to you. We do not publish performance publicly and our clients think long-term, freeing us from the traditional pressures of investment managers. As a private firm, we can think by decade, not quarter, with no public market shareholders to appease. We answer only to our clients.
You will always come first.
Our Name
AVK stands for “Anderssen vs. Kieseritzky”, a chess game played in 1851 between Adolf Anderssen and Lionel Kieseritzky. Dubbed “The Immortal Game”, Anderssen sacrificed most of his pieces in exchange for a meaningful advantage in position. Anderssen, focused solely on capturing his opponent’s king, prevailed. The game serves as a reminder to embrace long-term thinking, define your objectives clearly, focus on them relentlessly, and avoid pursuing superficial gains at the expense of primary goals.
